Moon Phases and Magic
Every phase of the moon has its magical properties, making it an ideal time to effectively utilize moon magic. While there is a lot of hype around the full moon, every moon phase has its unique power. Each phase can enhance the magic, ritual, or spell that you take on. The moon has always been associated with magic, and its influence on the Earth only strengthens that belief. Moon magic is something that we can all easily partake in, and it can be as simple as bathing in the moon. Regardless of your Wiccan or witchy faith, the moon can be an integral part of your practice.
For instance, the waxing phase of the moon (as the moon moves from the new moon to the full moon) is a time when you can do attainment or fulfillment magic. The proper timing can enhance the effect or possibility of your work. Just as the waxing phase is for bringing fruition, the waning phase of the moon (as the moon moves from the full moon to the new moon) is a time for banishment or removal of magic.
To sum it up, if you want to attract something, you should do the spell during the waxing moons, and if you want to push something away or out, you should do the spell during the waning moons.
Moon magic is very intuitive. If you are attuned to the moon’s cycle, you will sense the changes as the earth moves through the lunar cycles. This can help you develop your magical practice. Try charting the moon and staying up to date on its phases. You can do spells following the waxing and waning cycles and see if you get better results during a matching cycle versus an off cycle.
the Full (waning) and the New (waxing) moons:
FULL MOON Magic
I view the full moon as the end of the lunar cycle. I usually take the time on the full moon to give thanks for all that has come my way in the past lunar cycle. This can be done with simple meditation or journaling. The full moon is also a time to allow your spirit to recharge and set goals for the next cycle. Let the moon remove any displeasure or hardships from the previous cycle so you are ready for the next.
NEW MOON Magic
The new moon is my time to manifest new or lost things into your space. Any new projects you plan to embark on, focus on the desired outcome during a new moon ritual. This way you will be able to bring in the desired outcome but using the energies of the moon and its effect.
Other Moon Magic activities include:
1. Creating moon water, charged for any specific intention.
- Fill a glass jar with water
- You can add other herbs, depending on your intention to the water to enhance the effect.
- Hold the jar in your hands and focus on your intention.
- Say a few words if you are compelled. I have used the below with the intention of using the water to make tea for when I do tarot, but feel free to use whatever words you like, for whatever intention.
“I bless this water and set it in the moonlight.
I ask Mother Moon to charge and fill it with her light.
Purify and allow it to bring me sight.”
* Set the jar outside or in a window where it will safely receive moonlight.
- Fill a glass jar with water
2. Charging crystals.
– Cleanse crystals as you normally would.
– Hold in your hands and focus and intention
– Say a few words, again if you are compelled to.
“My crystal, I place into the light of the moon.
Mother moon charge and fill it with your power.
Give me the courage to make me bold.”
*Set crystals outside or in a windowsill to charge. You can also do this with Jewelry.
Enjoy the Moon
These are just a few things to do and keep in mind when looking to align the powers of the moon and your magic. The moon, magic or not, does have a significant pull, and effect on the earth that along with its mystical powers can aid you if you let it and utilize it.
Tarot or any other form of divination is also great to do during the full and new moon. During these times you can receive a clearer message from the universe with the heightened energies in the air.
