Divination

Divination is the practice of seeking knowledge of the future or spiritual guidance via supernatural means.

It takes many forms. Tarot, runes, tasseography, scrying, and more. The thing that they all have in common is your ability to pay attention, listen, and accept.

Presently, my main divination is tarot. I am trying to start my mornings with a 1-3 card pull to guide for the day and insight into the past and future. I evaluate the card to see what I can see or feel of the card and how that relates to what I am feeling, my expectations of this day, or other things going on in my life. Then I look up the meaning of the card and see how it relates to my interpretation. Once I have that in my mind, I begin my meditation. Taking the message of the card and listening to my subconscious, my higher self, and the universe for the answers/help that I seek.

Types

Now, let’s talk about the types of divination that there are.

1. Tarot cards are a 78-card deck meant for future telling. Check out this introduction under the Wicca section. https://twilightelements.com/tarot-introduction/

2. Runes are an ancient alphabet originating from Germanic and Scandinavian countries. Check out https://www.worldhistory.org/runes/ for more history or https://youtu.be/zsbz0oMKw6g for more on runic divination.

3. Tasseography is the art of reading tea leaves. Check out this YouTube for a crash course: https://youtu.be/0kEuQ5HGQmk

4. Scrying (fire, water, mirror) is essentially meditation while gazing into one of these elemental mediums. Allowing your vision to blur and see what is meant to be seen.

5. A Pendulum is a weighted object on a chord or string. It was used in the past as a method to locate water, heal, and guide. (The Art of the Pendulum). View my post on Pendulum Magic.

Meditation and Tarot

Many forms of meditation flow perfectly with divination. Here is how I have been meditating lately.

  1. First, I find a quiet place, inside or out, and turn on some calming music, with or without words.
  2. I feel my physical embodiment. I rotate my head, shoulders, and spine.
  3. Next, I ground. You can think of this as anchoring your physical body to the material realm.
    • As of late, I have been envisioning this as roots wrapping around my legs to hold me down.
  4. Close your eyes and begin focusing on your breath. Breathe in positive vibes, and breathe out negative thoughts, fears, and doubts.
  5. Don’t stop any thoughts, let them come in and out, if your mind wanders focus back on your breath.
  6. Now, allow your body to get heavy as you allow your true self to rise.
  7. Allow it to take you to your inner sanctum. You may have to create this through a few mediation sessions. This is completely sacred to you. It is a place where you can be fully at peace and can discover yourself.
  8. Finally, I pull up the tarot card in my mind and allow any message from my higher self, higher power, or universe to come to me.

The Hardest Thing about Divination is...

The hardest thing to do is listen to the signs and messages, especially if they are saying things, you do not want to hear. I have ignored many over the years because I was not paying attention and was not ready to hear. Once you listen, to whatever it may be, tarot, or just recurring things that keep happening that are telling you the same thing, once you listen, you can make the choice that will truly benefit you.

For example, drama at work, that repeatedly happens, dreading getting up, all signs. Pulling a tarot card that represents change with a pentacle card that speaks to security amidst all of that. Maybe it’s time for a career change. Sometimes it’s whispered, sometimes the universe screams at you…layoffs.

Once you listen, it does not even have to be a form of divination. How does a situation make you feel? The strongest divination is you, your intuition. Open yourself up inward and you will see the answers to so much.

So, close your eyes and listen, you and the universe have so much to say.

Tarot is the divination I currently work with. I am looking to explore new methods and will share them here. What do you use for divination?

Stay blessed and keep kicking.
