Spell Jars Vs. Spell Casting

Spell Jars Vs. Spell Casting

I’ve recently become interested in spell jars and I’m thinking about incorporating them into my craft. With Mabon approaching, I thought it would be a great time to start exploring this practice. I’ve already collected quite a few jars from recycling and in-store and online purchases.

We have plenty of helpful posts on our site if you’re interested in learning more about spells. You can find information on adding spells to your practice, casting productive spells, understanding the purpose of casting spells, and creating your own. Check out the posts below for more details.

What are Spell Jars?

Spell Jars are exactly what they sound like – spells within a jar. You can use spell jars whenever you want. The spell enclosed in the jar is completed when the intended outcome is achieved. After that, you can choose to bury the spell by burying the jar itself or deconstructing it. You can also save any crystals or trinkets included, as well as the jar, which can be reused as long as they are cleaned and cleansed.

There was a big misconception for me. I thought that whatever you put in the spell jar was then discarded once the spell was completed. I also thought these could only be used for indefinite spells – spells with no end or for a recurring spell.

Spell jars can be used for all these reasons. They can be utilized for all types of spellwork. I think they are best for spells that need a little more power. This means that instead of repeatedly casting the same spell, you can make a spell jar and shake it or meditate with it as you need that particular spell. Additionally, they are great to keep with you when you are out and about.

What is the difference between spell jars and spell casting?

Spell Jars

  • Spell ingredients are sealed
  • Duration of spell last longer than the words
  • Intention is set before the creation of the jar
  • Items used in spells can be reused
  • The potency of spell in greater because the ingredients are sitting together longer
  • Great for taking with you

Spell Casting

  • Spell ingredients are used and discarded during the spell
  • Duration of the spell lasts only as long as the casting
  • Repetition may be necessary for the desired effect to occur
  • Intention is set before the casting and held during
  • Focused more on your energy and conviction during the casting to fulfill the spell

After learning more about the reasoning behind the spell jar and its uses, I feel prepared to make some. Are you ready too?

How to Create a Spell Jar?

I have always felt that you have to set the environment before starting any magical work. So, before starting your spell jar creation, let’s get everything ready.

Remember the following steps to create a spell jar:

1. Gather all your materials for the jar you wish to create, including the jar itself, everything you wish to put in the jar, candles, and incense (if desired). Then, light them.
2. Cleanse yourself and your space.
3. Cleanse your tools, i.e., the jar.
4. Set your intention.
5. Begin adding each item into the jar, infusing it with its purpose.
6. Once everything is in, you can seal it with a cork, its top, and/or wax.
7. At this point, you can add a charm or affix it to a necklace to carry it with you.

You now have a potent spell to bring with you and utilize as you see fit until its intention is reached.
