Spiraling out: How to Circle Back?

I have been spiraling out lately. It’s been my self-talk, anxiety, and depression all hitting me at once. Our mental health is extremely important, and I personally have always kicked to the back burner. I am working on making it a priority. So should you.

Spiraling out as I am talking about it when your self-talk turns negative and it almost incapacitates you. You begin falling down a rabbit hole of self-doubt and shame. This sink hole can be hard to claw your way out.

When I was falling and spiraling out myself, I had to find a way to pull myself out. I was sick of crying and was not benefiting myself or my family.

Let’s talk about what to do when you start to feel the signs. For me, the signs were easily angered, feeling overwhelmed and overlooked, everything seemed annoying, and my emotions were heightened.
Here is how I got out.

First and foremost, take a breath. When you are in this state, you forget to breathe. Your body needs oxygen to regulate. Grounding is very helpful, too.

Second, take control. Find something that you can start and complete in the next 30 minutes. Whether it’s picking up a few toys, your kids left out, or washing the dishes in the sink. Now I know this can be hard, but try to just find one small task that you can accomplish and that you can control.

Next, journal. You are feeling this way for a reason. Set yourself a 10 to 15 minute timer and be honest. Once you identify the trigger of your spiral, you can better handle it the next time.

Try these the next time you feel your anxiety flare or just start to feel overwhelmed. See if these help.
