Why to Not Give Up on Your Dreams?

Many people have many dreams, but sometimes, they don’t always fulfill them. Life takes over, priorities take over, and suddenly they are miles away from what they want to do or be in their life. I know that’s the case with some of mine. But no matter when you circle back, you should never give up on your dreams.

It is never too late to restart, get back on track, or just play get started. You can even add new ones.

I’m 33 this year. I had plenty of plans for what I wanted to do with my life. There are so many goals and big dreams to accomplish. I have checked a few off, but some were just baby steps to bigger dreams. The rest, I am just getting going or are still waiting to be started. I always tell myself this is the year. This time, I have a plan.

There is a saying by Greg Reid:

"A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes dreams come true."

In the past, I have been simultaneously good and bad at this. I have the writing part down, and I have the planning part to perfection. I have added dates and broken them down into steps (I even accomplished some of the steps), and something always takes me off track. My willpower, my discipline, and my consistency were lacking. Well, I’m over it. I took a long, hard look at all the things I have said I wanted to accomplish and decided which ones I still want. I narrowed it down to 3. Two are obvious, and one is new, and I’m still deciding on my seriousness on that.

Easy right...?

One and two have always been in my heart. And I feel in my soul this is the year. Third, I have always liked flying, but I never had the desire to fly a plane until recently. I will do this, but it may be on the back burner for a little.

So, let's first follow the prompt.

I have a plan, I have dates, and I have shared it here. The only thing left to do is do it and stay consistent.

Now, I know all this sounds great. And if it’s this easy, why have I or you not accomplished all you have dreamt? Well, skim back up to that first paragraph, life.

I know, for me, at least I found everything else to do. I would have a moment to write or practice, and there would be dishes in the sink or toys on the floor or something more crucial at that particular moment and I just could not work in peace unless it was done.

Since I know this of myself, I focused my January and first half of February on getting a routine. I complete these tasks that I know will bother me in the morning and a little extra, so when it was time to kick-start my restart, I would have a plan that would already be in action, and I would have the time.

If you know you are a certain way, you may have to put a few things in place to ensure you can stick to your plan. Even if that means getting up a wee bit earlier or staying up a bit later. If you want it, you have to make the time. Even if it’s just a bit here and there or throughout the day. Every little bit is a step closer.

Why do we need our dreams?

Dreams make life worth living, no matter how crazy. Don’t wait until they become backlist items. Get started now. You don’t have to do them all. Maybe you feel it is too late for some, or you don’t feel the same about it. You are always able to change your dreams and dream new dreams. The point is to now give up on your dreams. They make life worth living, and the journey so much better.

Blessed be
